So, I run this list. It's not the only Metallica slash out there. There are people on metslash who aren't on the list that dare not speak its name, and vice versa. There are some people on both lists. Most of the people who are no mail and/or lurkers on metslash are on both lists. Most of the people who post fic are only on metslash.

Every time I remind people about our archiving policies, I remind them that crossposting is okay. It is possible to post a fic to a list without granting archiving permission. I know that some of the people on both lists are writers. I know that some of them are extremely good writers. I know that they've posted fic to the other list. And yet, with the exception of one author and one story by a second author, none of them post to metslash.

Why not?

Is it because we don't automatically jump up and down and say, "Oh, you're so wonderful, that was the best story ever, when are you writing the sequel?" to every piece of fic that gets posted? Is it because I actually dare to say what I don't like about fic? I only wish someone would critique my fic the way I've critiqued other people's fic. Well, the more recent stuff anyway; I know just how bad some of my older fic is. Isn't that far more useful to you as a writer than unconditional praise for every word you write?

Or perhaps, like one person who recently unsubbed, they don't like it that I dare say that I don't like some of the writing and list policies of the other list. Apparently the fact that all three S's and various other people from the other list have said extremely negative things about metslash and me in their journals and journal comments is completely irrelevant.

Not that I'm bitter.

Why would you want to even continue to criticize a list's policies that you are not on? You do not need to defend the people you believe have a problem with our list. They need to come forward for themselves. And please don't tell me they are afraid, basically because I have seen more people speak their mind on list then you can count. So, that will not hold water.

I do find it strange that not one person has come forward to agree with you that our list policies are unfair. One person that is still on our list I mean. I already know that Mel and Nette do not like them. You keep saying that others have come to you. Then why do they not speak up for themselves. Or at least support you here. I'm finding it harder to believe that they actually exist, basically because if they didn't like the list policies and they were unhappy they could either talk to us or leave. Why complain to you?

You can say you don't like our list policies. You do have that right, and if you were a part of our list...then i can see this being a problem that would need to be discussed. But since you no longer are a part of the list, and no one else wants to come forward and talk to me. (I have offered...and am always open to it.) well I feel this subject is about as closed as it can get at this point.

I would guess that people I've talked to aren't supporting me because they know that any disagreement with you three S's is frowned upon and, at the very least, is punished by being ignored. I've said many times on my list that I'd rather people bitch to me if they have problems than just unsub. Liz didn't do that, although I'm sure she bitched to people on tallific. People don't always feel comfortable talking to the people in charge, whether that's me or you three S's. You can't possible know the interior thoughts of all 66 people on your list. If people don't want to tell you that they're upset with any piece of it, you'll never know that they are.

If you think the topic is as closed as it's going to get, then you don't have to respond to anything anymore.

For the same reason many people criticise laws of countries they're not citizens of. Because we have an opinion on these policies/laws, and we want to express that opinion. I don't live in Signapore. Does that mean I'm not allowed to say their laws suck bunnies?
