Hi! I'm excited you're writing me a story! Thank you for taking on one of these requests.

First up, what I do and don't like in fic. I'm cool with gen or pairing fic, sex or no sex. I've tried to give you a variety of ideas for each fandom if you want somewhere to start from, but please feel free to go somewhere else with your story if there's something else you want to write. I want this to be fun for you!

Likes: Clothes sharing, d/s, women, relationships between equals, people being smart/competent, people acting like adults, cuddling, happy endings, kids and babies, dialogue, slowly developing relationships, relationship negotiations of all kinds, kink negotiation, unconventional parenting arrangements, people making reproductive choices (no matter what the outcome), non-creepy possessiveness, nonsexual intimacy (sex is also good), power dynamics, feminist themes, hand-holding, food sharing.

Dislikes: Embarrassment (especially teenage embarrassment), misogyny, an overabundance of teenage angst, stories designed to make the reader feel anxious or full of dread (I like things that are prickly and difficult, just not in a doom is coming or embarrassment sort of way), graphic on-screen violence (the aftermath of violence is fine).

Now on to specific fandoms:

Home Again (2017) )

If Books Could Kill (Podcast) )

Quest For A Maid - Frances Mary Hendry )

I hope that gives you some good ideas to start from, and I hope you have a good Yuletide experience! ♥

Stories For Me

all that is good (10136 words) by sevenfoxes
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Bourne (Movies)
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Jason Bourne/Nicky Parsons
Characters: Jason Bourne, Nicky Parsons
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, unprotected sex
Summary:

You think about Landy, how the hearings meant to expose corruption instead started to swallow her whole, destroying the last genuinely good person you knew at the CIA. You think about Vosen and Conklin and Abbot and all the fucking men who hid behind the flag and a thick line about patriotism while pursuing their own agenda, their own power and money. You think about your father dying alone, believing you were gone, that the last of his family was dead.

“There have to be consequences,” you tell him.

That is the difference between the two of you. Jason wants to be left alone.

You want vengeance.

What I liked: NICKY! I was really excited to get a story all about Nicky. This does a really good job of alternating past and present to flesh out the characters and their relationship. Plus reproductive choices.

I was about 90% sure I wouldn't get matched on The Fast and the Furious because I only offered Mia and Letty and I figured anyone requesting it would request Dom and/or Brian. Hi! I'm excited you're writing me a story! Thank you for taking on one of these requests.

First up, what I do and don't like in fic. The long version is below, and I have fic likes and dislikes tags on Tumblr and here on LJ if you want more than that. Short version: I like nonsexual intimacy (sex is good too), power dynamics, relationships between equals, feminist themes, dialogue. I dislike misogyny, abrupt endings, things that are going to make me feel anxious or full of dread while reading (I like things that are prickly and difficult, just not in a doom is coming or embarrassment sort of way). I'm cool with gen or pairing fic, sex or no sex. I've tried to give you a variety of ideas for each fandom, but please feel free to go somewhere else with your story if it works. Most of the suggestions below are pretty mild, but I am totally into kink fic if that's something you want to write.

Likes: Clothes sharing, D/s, women, relationships between equals (and yet D/s; it’s like a less complicated romance/erotica version of a koan), people being smart/competent, people acting like adults, soulbonding and other variations on meant to be, they have to get married, cuddling, happy endings, well-structured endings, kids and babies, dialogue, snappy dialogue, people who are practically married before the romance/sex, slowly developing relationships, relationship negotiations of all kinds, kink negotiation, unconventional parenting arrangements, judicious parceling out of backstory/exposition, a/b/o, D/s AUs, people making reproductive choices, werewolves, non-creepy possessiveness, poly/poly V/open/unconventional relationships.

Dislikes: Embarrassment (especially teenage embarrassment), misogyny, historical AUs based on actual history (fake historical AUs, like regency romances where same-sex marriage is just as respectable as opposite-sex marriage, are awesome), randomly inconsistent pov, abrupt endings, badly written endings, endings that throw out the entire premise of the rest of the story, an overabundance of teenage angst, first person, trope inversions, infodumps.

I wrote two stories, the first for the main collection, the second for the madness collection. It's probably not a coincidence that they're both gen about female characters.

"Pick Yourself Up and Get On With Your Life" (AO3 | LJ), In Plain Sight, gen, 2000 words, general audiences, spoilers through season 4 for [livejournal.com profile] shameless2shoes: "So," Marshall said. "Mark's still on your couch."

"Adrenaline Junkies" (AO3 | LJ), Fast and the Furious Series, Mia, Letty, gen, 900 words, teen, spoilers through Fast Five for [livejournal.com profile] eternalscribe: Mia leaves while they're out. She puts the letters she wrote where Dom and Brian will see them, hitches Nico higher on her hip, and leaves her car in the airport parking lot with no intention of ever coming back.

Yuletide Story for Me
Someone wrote me Unasked. Rizzoli & Isles fic, just for me!

Yuletide Guessing Game
I wrote one story in the main collection and one in the madness collection. I talked to many of you about my story in the main collection, so those of you who heard about it are ineligible for guessing on that one, but I didn't talk to anyone about my madness story since I didn't know I was going to write it until I did. Anyway, if you guess what I wrote, I will write you a snippet of your choice!

Yuletide Recs
I surprised myself by how few Yuletide fandoms I actually wanted to read stories in. (The sexism/misogyny of so many of the requests I read on the spreadsheets of all requests also soured my enjoyment of the whole thing. Really, fandom, we're still doing that?) Of the things I did read, the following are the stories I liked best. AO3 usability hint: if you hate the Yuletide banner/margin, delete "collections/yuletide2011/" from the URL and it'll show the story without the Yuletide stuff around it.

open problem (Push, gen) - This is a fantastic post-movie story that manages to incorporate the same kind of twists and turns the movie does, and there's a line in there that is just a phenomenal perspective on the whole plot.

And You're Overdue ("You Make Me Feel" video, Gabe/Sabi) - I liked a lot of things about this video, but hated the way it reinforces the supremacy of couples and coupledom. This story fixes all that by making it a soulbonding story in a world with empaths, succubi, and other supernatural types. It also has this fantastic piece of dialogue about Gabe: "You were easy to find. Everything about you is very loud and your tour schedule is on the Internet."

All the Little Lives We Could Have Lived (Titanic RPF, Kate/Leo) - This is not a pairing I would have ever thought of on my own, but the fact that there was a story on some commentfic meme a while ago made me click on the fandom in the Yuletide collection. This is a lovely story that spans decades. I loved both the portrayal of their relationship and the way they are both such interesting characters.

Amy Potter and the Monkey of Salvation: an America's Test Kitchen Adventure (Cook's Illustrated/TV Commercials, gen) - I was curious about cookbook fic, and I have a soft spot for fic about Mayhem, so of course I had to read this. It's great. It's adorable and it made me laugh.

Three Scenes from Tiny Cooper's 2014 New Year's Eve Party that Will Definitely Be in His Autobiography (Will Grayson Will Grayson, Tiny/Will) - I was iffy about Will Grayson Will Grayson fic because the book is so fantastic, but this story didn't disappoint at all.

Other Holiday Challenge Recs
I read a handful of [livejournal.com profile] bandomstuffsit fics today, and there were two I absolutely loved.

Food Of Love (Play On) (Alex/Ryland) - This is a semi-AU where Cobra Starship never got off the ground, so Ryland is a waiter/aspiring actor who also plays in Gabe's band on the weekends. He meets up with Alex again when Alex becomes the new sous chef at the restaurant. This story is so perfect. It's romantic and funny and delightful. I almost emailed one of you a rec today, and then I realized the person I was going to email probably wrote the story and had to put it in a post instead.

the times, they are a-changing, or: a modern marriage of convenience (Brendon/Spencer) - There's sort of a plot here - Dallon suggests that since they're both single at the holidays, Brendon and Spencer should hook up - but mostly there is a really hot, kinky sex scene with Spencer subbing.

Summary: Mia leaves while they're out. She puts the letters she wrote where Dom and Brian will see them, hitches Nico higher on her hip, and leaves her car in the airport parking lot with no intention of ever coming back.

Hi there! I'm super excited that you're writing me a story! Thank you for taking on one of my requests.

Now, I know you're really here to figure out what the heck I might like. Luckily, I can help you with that. I did the very long kink/trope meme a while back, and here is a shorter fic likes and dislikes post. The very short summary version: I like women, dialogue, intimacy along the nonsexual plane (although sex is good too), and relationships between equals. I dislike misogyny, randomly inconsistent pov, abrupt endings, and anything that makes me feel anxious or embarrassed for the characters.

And now, some specifics about the fandoms I requested:

Make It Or Break It - The story of my heart is the one where Payson is a lesbian. If that is not your thing, that is okay! I would especially love anything about Payson's relationships with other women (I'm the person who nominated both Kim Keeler and Heather, even though I didn't specifically request either of them), or really anything about Payson as a person.

Push - I can't tell you why I love this movie so much. I think it's some combination of the fantastic colors, Dakota Fanning, and the psychic abilities. I would love a threesome or some other kind of Cassie-Nick-Kira chosen family thing, but really anything with all three of them would make my day.

Rizzoli & Isles - The thing I love most about this show is their bantering and conversation. I would also read femslash. Or a casefile. Or anything else that involves Jane and Maura being their awesome selves.

Thank you again, writer, for taking on my request(s). I'm looking forward to reading what you come up with!

♥ and happy writing,
Ruth
