Dead Hollywood Saturday: Two Mini-Reviews
Sep. 16th, 2006 09:21 pmThe boys and I went to see both Hollywoodland and The Black Dahlia today.
None of us liked Hollywoodland very much. It drifted a whole bunch, to the point that by the end we had a hard time identifying what the main focus of the movie was supposed to be. We did like Ben Affleck and Diane Lane; they did a wonderful job.
The Black Dahlia is much better than Hollywoodland, although I think I liked it a lot more than the boys did. It tends toward overwrought and melodramatic, which is part of what I liked about it; that fits the era. It's also very Lee (Aaron Eckhart)/Dwight (Josh Hartnett)/Kay (Scarlett Johansson) threesomey. If you find any good Lee/Dwight/Kay fic, point me that way.

Aha!
Date: 2006-09-17 04:46 am (UTC)Crazy Mother Linscott from The Black Dahlia is Fiona Shaw (http://imdb.com/name/nm0789716/), who you would know as Harry's wicked Aunt from the HP movies but who I remember as King Koopa's wife from the Super Mario Bros. movie.
I have a thing for identifying actors by their worst roles.
And Molly Parker (http://imdb.com/name/nm0662504/) (the estranged wife of Adrian Brody's character in Hollywoodland is a character in Deadwood -- I feel kind of embarrassed since I've been watching the first season and didn't recognize her right off.
So yeah. That.
fuseji still thinks the best part of either movie was the line about "blowing smoke rings with her c**t".

Date: 2006-09-17 03:04 pm (UTC)The only Molly Parker things I've seen (Hard Core Logo and her episode of The Sentinel) are not things where she has a very big role, so it makes sense that I didn't really know who she is.
The one that was driving me crazy was Caroline Dhavernas, who was the main character on Wonderfalls, where her role and look were completely different.
