Dead Hollywood Saturday: Two Mini-Reviews
Sep. 16th, 2006 09:21 pmThe boys and I went to see both Hollywoodland and The Black Dahlia today.
None of us liked Hollywoodland very much. It drifted a whole bunch, to the point that by the end we had a hard time identifying what the main focus of the movie was supposed to be. We did like Ben Affleck and Diane Lane; they did a wonderful job.
The Black Dahlia is much better than Hollywoodland, although I think I liked it a lot more than the boys did. It tends toward overwrought and melodramatic, which is part of what I liked about it; that fits the era. It's also very Lee (Aaron Eckhart)/Dwight (Josh Hartnett)/Kay (Scarlett Johansson) threesomey. If you find any good Lee/Dwight/Kay fic, point me that way.
