I have a shiny new DVD burner and a spindle of CDs and I promised to make Sarah a copy of Mrs. Potter (a Molly Mix). I also keep thinking that maybe I would try my hand at making a mix CD. However, I've never done this before, and I have no idea what I'm doing.

[Poll #675453]

Of course, the really big questions don't fit neatly into a poll: What makes a good mix CD and how does one develop the skills needed to make a good mix CD?

I am mediocre at making mix CDs, the Mrs. Potter mix probably the only good one, but I think having the songs in an order that makes sound-sense is a good idea. Like, it's kind of jarring to go from something soft and sweet to heavy metal. But that is the only tip I have.

What exactly is a Molly Mix?

you need an "other" column for the last question because although I need no more CD's, my answer was "Oh yeah" (insert deep voicedness there)

The thing I like about doing it with Itunes is you make a playlist, listen to it, adjust it if the sound isn't right (I agree about making like sounds go together), then burn it. It's a much easier process with itunes in my experience than with windows media where switching song orders is a pain (the only other thing I"ve used was drag'n'drop and that's a terrible idea).
