Movie 1
On Saturday, we saw Into the Blue. Now, we knew it wasn't going to be any good, but it's an action movie with Paul Walker and Jessica Alba, so it should have at least been bad in a fun way. But no. It was just bad in a bad way. The plot is ludicrous. There are way too many gratuitous shots of Jessica Alba's body undulating in the water, not to mention all the other filler shots of fish. I'm not exaggerating here. It was bad.

Josh Brolin is in it, as Paul Walker's rival (who Paul Walker apparently worked for before). I was excited by Josh Brolin's name in the credits, but I totally didn't recognize him until about halfway through, and then I was completely distracted by thinking about The Young Riders. Now there's a show that I wish would come out on DVD. Josh Brolin played Jimmy, and in the fantasy world in my eleven-year-old head (yes, I was a fan ficcer long before I knew what fan fiction was), he was very much in love with Lou, and they got more than just that one kiss. I, myself, was a bit in love with Lou, which is yet another one of those things I look back on now and think, "Yes, I am a lesbian." Mmm, Yvonne Suhor. The only episode of Northern Exposure I ever saw was the one she was in.

I used to have this whole Mary Sue-ish plot in my head about Lou and Kid's children, where their oldest daughter (Jessica; her twin brother was James) and Jimmy were in love, although they didn't actually admit it to each other. I realize now how the age difference there would be mildly disturbing.

Movie 2
Today we went to see Domino. Keira Knightley as a bounty hunter. This should be great, right? Well, no. It was better than Into the Blue, but overall not that good. The plot makes less sense than it should, Domino's not as hot as she should be (although the real Domino shows up just before the end credits, and she actually is pretty hot), and there isn't the tension I expected between Keira and Lucy Liu. I did like the way they used text on the screen, Mickey Rourke's Ed Mosbey, and Edgar Ramirez' Choco.

TV
I watched three episodes of Angel on Friday (and sent many emails to Sky; this is what happens when there isn't anyone around for me to comment at), which means I'm only three discs from the end. As you may or may not know, part of why I got Netflix was so I could watch Buffy and Angel all the way through. I don't know what I'm going to do once I've finished Angel, so here's your chance to influence my viewing.

Before you take the poll, you should know that I'm also working my way through MI-5 (also known as Spooks, which was apparently the US title) and One Tree Hill, season 2.

Poll options are in order of where things currently are in my Netflix queue. In defense of the things that seem sure to be bad: they're supposed to be classics, but I've never seen them. Remember: I did not grow up with cable. There are also things I've seen but have thought about rewatching.

(Poll broken up into three questions to accommodate all options.)

[Poll #591937]

All That Stuff
The worst thing about you all not taking all my stuff is that now I'm going to have to (a) label all those damn tapes and (b) figure out how to get said tapes and other fannish stuff to Escapade. I won't start getting rid of stuff until Saturday, so you have just under a week to claim things if there's anything you want.

Erg, I just tried to post and it erased my post, grrrrrr

So to try to recreate:

The first thing is that I was in a friends missing mood today and it really cheered me up to read you talking. I read and thought, "Ruthy, I love you".

Next, I voted with ulterior motives, I want you to see farscape so you can fill in the gaps for me (I've only seen a few episodes). And can I vote against Kids next Door (bleh, I hate that show)? I've heard that the L-word is both really good and really hot. And I feel I should put in a word for my guilty pleasures, Charmed and Stargate: SG-1 (Guilty as charged I looooooooooooove stargate).

Last thing is look! I'm not anonymous anymore! (I can take polls yeah!) And I have Gorebash!

The first few seasons of the X-Files are good, before they go all crazy with aliens and crap.

Have you watched House? I'm watching House. Mmm, evil snarky doctors. It amuses me because it takes place in my town (or okay, Mom's town, but whatever)

I like Next Generation best of all Star Treks... DS9 is pretty good once they get Worf, but Voyager sucks (though I heard it gets better once they get the courtesy tits 7 of 9, but the first season destroyed me... boring.)

It's funny, I never rec DS9 because I thought it got annoying really fast (though I was a devoted watcher for the first couple seasons). But one of my big problems with it was Kira, so I can see that if you did like her then it would be pretty good (though not as good as TNG of course)

I'm watching this old movie with Ann Margaret called "Made in Paris", and it's pretty funny got lots of that 70's conflict: to sex or not to sex. And I was pretty amused by a man describing this girl as wanting a night of "almosts": almost danger, almost love, almost sex. It just struck me as interesting... and it's late so I'm typing too much...and, um, I'll go now.

B'Elanna/Chakotay? I was totally a Captain/Chakotay shipper (in the few episodes I watched...) --of course, later I heard that the "in" ship in Voyager was Tom/Harry (which I never saw) and Captain/7 of 9. I only ever watched one episode with her so I can't really say anything about her, but my brother was like "well, at least she has nice boobs." B'Elanna and Tom do hook up, fairly early, too. They get rid of Kes at the beginning of the first season, which can't help but be a good thing. DS9 I would've kept up with if I hadn't gone to school... Kira/Odo and Garek/doctor kid were both incredibly cute, I thought. I guess, shows with ongoing plots are a lot easier to watch when you've got the DVDs. :)

I don't know if I saw your House poll, since I just started watching like two weeks ago. Yeah, yeah, I'm slow...

The OTPs where I have issues reading either half of the pairing with anyone else are always het couples.

The solution to this, you see, is threesomes. In the magical world of fic, they always work out fine. :)

Huh, I guess that does put a damper on things... I tend to have the problem of liking A with B and A with C, but not B with C... Foolish logic, getting in the way of porn. :P

Huh, maybe I am just in the wrong fandoms. Cartoon fangirls tend to be EW HET or EW GAY...it's really hard to find writers who'll do both. :(
