I think it's become a complicated question. Definitely a no-no if people might suspect you harbor feelings for one (or both) of the couple. But, I've worn a largely black dress to two weddings, both of them were in the evening which made it more okay (and it had a big cream design on it anyway). I think it's just important that it doesn't look like something you could wear to somebody's funeral...
