I'm having a lot of feelings, and I need somewhere to put them, even if they're somewhat disjointed. If you hate Meredith or the show, please do not bring those feelings into the comments.
I'm still a little disappointed that Alex and Jo moved out at the end of last season because I really wanted an Alex & Meredith platonic soulmates commune. I have a lot of feelings about Alex in general, and his relationship with Meredith in particular. I find it really interesting that Alex is one of the characters who's had the most character growth over the course of the show, and I love his platonic relationships with Arizona and Meredith. In particular, I love the way he's become Meredith's bff, in a way that's similar to what she had with Christina, complete with talking in bed and having important emotional conversations.
I'm still also having a lot of feelings about the end of this week's episode when Meredith tells Penny not to be late to work. I'm still thinking about the grace of that moment. The episode where Derek dies showed me what a great actress Ellen Pompeo is, and the speech she gives Penny about "he's your one" was an important part of that. It was a great character moment because her husband was dying, and she was still teaching. That's part of what made her accepting Penny now meaningful too. It made me think of one of my favorite moments from an earlier season: after Callie decides Meredith is ready for her boards, Meredith gathers with the other residents to study. One of them asks if they're using the Torres method, and she says, "No, the Grey method." At the time I loved it because Meredith and her people is the best thing about the show, but looking back on it, I also like the way it's part of a continuum of her being a teacher, which we've seen a lot of this season.
