I'm idly thinking about a name on the wrist story where Brandon's wrist says Alex and Maripier's wrist says Etienne, and they fall in love and make a life together anyway. Brandon tells Maripier he hasn't yet met his Alex. She tells him something that makes him think she's met her Etienne but something happened and they're not together. They both wear very expensive, designer wrist guards in public. It's a good life they have together, until the lockout ends and Brandon meets Alex Galchenyuk. He goes home from that first day of training camp and says, "I think I met my Alex today."

I don't know if this would then be a poly V story, a threesome that starts out somewhat awkward and uncomfortable, or a story where Brandon and Alex are platonic soulmates.

Training camp is exhausting, even though the first day is mostly all fitness testing and meeting the new guys. Between that and Maripier's schedule, Brandon doesn't tell her until they're cuddled up on the couch later. He pulls her close to his side and doesn't turn on the TV.

"I think I met my Alex today."

Brandon holds Maripier close even when she tenses.

"I'm not going anywhere," he says. "I love you. I just wanted to be honest with you about it."

He can feel Maripier's breath shudder, but her voice is steady when she asks, "What's he like?"

"Young," Brandon says ruefully. "I don't know much about him yet, but there was something there when I met him. I think he's the one on my wrist."

He takes out his phone and googles Alex, and he and Maripier watch him get drafted.

"He is very young," Maripier says. She turns into Brandon, cuddling closer and hiding her face in his shoulder. "I met Etienne just after I got kicked out."

Brandon puts both arms around her. He knows how hard it is for her to talk about that time in her life.

"I didn't even know him," she says. "I was just, I don't know, looking pathetic outside a Timmy's, and he bought me coffee." She takes another one of those shuddering breaths. "I think if I'd met him earlier, or later, we would be together now, but I was too messed up then."

Brandon presses his lips to the top of her head.

"I think about him sometimes," Maripier goes on. "I love you. I love you so much. But he's on my wrist, and I think about it. I wonder if he's seen me on TV." She curls her fingers in Brandon's t-shirt and her voice shakes. "Why he hasn't tried to get in touch if he has."

Brandon murmurs soothing nonsense to her until she stops crying into his shirt.
