What about mixing up the nanny AU? Claude has a baby and hires Danny (who has three kids and knows what he's doing) to be the nanny. He has his own place, butspends days and evenings when Claude has games at Claude's with the baby. When Claude has away games, Danny stays over at his place and the kids are with Sylvie.
The backstory for Danny being a nanny would be that Danny and Sylvie owned a day care. When they got divorced, he knew someone who wanted full-time daycare and trusted him, so she got the business and he became a nanny. This also means that she often has kids on a field trip to the boys' hockey games, so there's someone Danny can leave Claude's baby with while he coaches.
When he talks to Claude about that, he says, "My boys play sports, and I'm one of their coaches. My ex is always at the games, and we ran the daycare together. I completely trust her, and she's willing to babysit while I coach, if that's okay with you."
Claude says, "Of course," with a soft little smile. "I don't want you to miss out on your boys' lives."
The sad option for where Claude got the baby is that Isabelle had a baby, and then she and her husband died and Claude took custody of the baby:
Claude always texts or calls if he's going out after a game, to make sure Danny can stay. One of those nights, he comes home drunk, and Danny says, "I can stay."
Claude says, "No, no, you should go home to your kids."
"They're with their mom. You should go to bed."
Claude won't until he looks in on the baby. "It was supposed to be Isabelle," he says. "When she was pregnant and worried about everything, she made me promise that if anything ever happened to them, I would take the baby. I didn't think I ever would, but they went out on a date, and then my sister was dead and I had a baby. And I'm not- I don't know what I'm doing."
Danny puts his arm around Claude. "You're doing fine. Go get in bed, and I'll bring you some water and aspirin."
Claude turns all the way into Danny and hugs him tight. "Thank God for you. I couldn't do it without you."
And then, eventually, of course, Danny and the boys move into Claude's giant house with him.
