Breaking News: Claude + Danny 4-Ever

Claude and Danny are going to play in Berlin together during the lockout.

I'm not sure my body can contain my joy. (Also, I did not realize I was quite this invested in them.)

Now we just need all the fic about them (a) living together in Berlin, (b) hooking up, and (c) Skyping with the kids.

Aww, thanks! I have another project at the moment, but I'm sure I'll eventually end up writing some sort of lockout fic.

APPARENTLY THEY ARE BRINGING THE KIDS. Or so news sources seem to think, though without direct quotes? DO YOU HAVE ANY MORE INFO ON THIS? I AM TRYING TO WRITE FIC.

I'd guess that's entirely slow news day speculation:

Danny Briere and Claude Giroux are headed to Europe to play for Eisbären Berlin in the Deutsche Eishiockey Liga (DEL).

Briere texted CSNPhilly.com this morning with the news.

There is a custody agreement to take into account (I'm relatively sure the New York Times thinking Danny has sole custody is just bad fact-checking), and unless Sylvie also wants to go spend an unspecified amount of time in Berlin, I'm not sure he could take the kids - assuming they would even want to go. They seem to be the age where they might not appreciate having to leave their friends.

(I can't even find anything useful about what Danny and Sylvie did about the kids in the last lockout. There's an interview with Danny and Dany Heatley in Switzerland where they're clearly living together and not cooking, but in one of the things from the last couple of weeks, Danny said something about how the kids are older now and it would be harder to move them this time than last time.)

Ugh. I actually started the fic assuming the kids were back in the States, but then when those articles started coming out I went back and wrote them in. NOW IT'S TOO LATE TO CHANGE. Even though it will probably be jossed in the next couple of days.

It seems weird that the NYT would print something like that if it weren't true, though -- especially since there are plenty of articles from around the time of the divorce that explicitly say he had a 50/50 agreement. Do you suppose it's possible that Sylvie remarried and moved away? That's the only non-dramalama reason I can think of why he might have wound up with full custody in the last year.

It does seem weird, but they're not infallible. I suppose it's possible the custody situation has changed, but I don't think Sylvie's moved away - the interview from last month about Danny's mom passing away said he drove back from Canada alone because the kids had already gone back to Jersey with Sylvie.
