The earlier red hair can be explained by him being in part of the family that's also Weasley-related.
Pete spends a lot of time trying to get English wizarding family trees out of Patrick's family. He's sure he must be related to Harry Potter. He must! (Patrick keeps trying to let convince him that he's made his own name for himself, but Pete doesn't listen to that kind of logic.)
It's not getting caught in flagrante delicto that's the problem. It's not even the pictures that are the problem. It's the goddamn owls. And it's not that they object to him with a man, or even an American, or even an American by way of Uruguay. No, what has the Malfoy relatives bombarding Patrick with an entire aviary's worth of owls is Gabe's music, which is "not a career befitting a Malfoy paramour."
"I produced some of that music," Patrick both mutters and yells at different points. "My music is the same style."
"Yes, darling," Astoria says (Astoria being the only one willing to treat him as if he were a rational adult rather than a willful child), "but you're a Malfoy and it can be seen as a mild eccentricity."
The constant barrage makes Patrick dig his heels in, and what would have been just a fling becomes something all together more. It's only when he's standing at the head of a rented reception hall (a compromise; the Saportas wouldn't go for a church and the Malfoys wouldn't agree to a synagogue) and catches the hint of triumph in Aunt Narcissa's smile that Patrick realizes how thoroughly he's been manipulated. Damn them if they think he's going to have the children, Patrick decides then and there. Gabe wants them so much, he can have them.
Of course, then Gabe walks down the aisle, smile ridiculously shy for someone who's done the things to and with him that Gabe has, and Patrick forgets about anything else.
♥ Thank you! (You bet he winds up happy. Sex and music with Gabe, and kids he loves but doesn't have to full-time parent because Gabe is totally into that.)
I love this, I love this a lot. Malfoys can be eccentric, but everybody else had better toe the line and You don't like him? Fine, then I WILL MARRY HIM, OKAY? Adorable
