Maybe for other people. (I and the two people I went with are the only people I've heard of who didn't like it.) I hated almost everything about it. I found myself crossing my arms and pressing into the back of my chair from the very beginning.
From backreading your LJ, you might want to go in forewarned about one of the things that bothered me more than I would have expected (spoilery for the beginning): it starts with Erik's family being herded into a concentration camp, and proceeds into an office that seems innocuous until the camera turns around and it's separated by a glass wall from what is clearly an experiment/torture chamber. There's a Nazi coin that plays a key part in the scene, and the coin flips around to be the X-Men logo. There is a later Holocaust reference that also really bothered me - there was a way to make it meaningful and powerful in the context of the film and the characters, but it felt to me like they were exploiting my/our people's history for cheap theater.
