Miscellany: Not that complicated.

There's something about Avril Lavigne's voice when she sings, "Take off all your preppy clothes," that gets to me every time. Am I the only one who thinks of her as April the Vine rather than Avril Lavigne? Why on Earth would anyone compare her to Alanis Morissette?

In rereading, I'm struck by the similarity between Kassandra's "Out of the Dark" and the early parts of Diana Williams' "Chains of Desire". Was there a discussion on a list that spawned both of them? Were they written completely independently or was there some sort of contact between the authors?

My love of Eroica has been revived, as has my disgust for the fanon depiction of Dorian as an untainted innocent.

I've been trying to read The Bourne Identity since Saturday. It seems to bear little to no relation to the movie, and I can't seem to read more than a chapter or so before falling asleep.

I got a job before breakfast.

Being a "Design and Publications Editor." It's 20 hours a week for three months, which means I can still do my part-time internship and job hunt at the same time.

I like "Complicated," but I lost all respect for her when I saw that she has a song entitled "Sk8er boi." Plus, I think "Avril" is just silly as a name.

Dorian, innocent? Dorian Gloria? Am I misremembering, or is this the guy who told Caesar how lucky he (Caesar) was to be losing his virginity to him (Dorian)?

You're not misremembering. Not to mention that in "Midnight Collector," one of the side stories, he talks about trading sex to a much older man for a painting, and at the time he did so, he was no more than fifteen years old and may have even been as young as thirteen. But there are way too many writers out there who still see him as this innocent untouched by the horrors of the world.

I had no idea you knew Eroica. Are you at all interested in some discussion about it? I'm dying for some intelligent Eroica discussion and plot bunnying

I read the first two or three volumes (I think) in the con suite at Escapade, and was intrigued. The "you're so lucky to be losing your virginity to *me*" thing reminded me of Steve, for some reason. Of course, considering how out of it I was that whole weekend, I don't know how intelligent the discussion will be ;-)

Thanks for the links. I meant to read through them this weekend so I could get more of a sense of the characterization, but this weekend was kind of sucky and I didn't get to it. But I will. Kick me if I don't get back to you by next weekend.
