I was reading kink where the sub was kneeling with his hands behind his back and had to stand up, and his dom helped him. I've probably read similar things before, but this time it struck me: how hard is that, really? I took/have taken (I haven't decided yet if this is just a temporary break or if it's really time for me to move on) belly dance for almost five years, which means I can stand up from sitting or kneeling without using my hands while balancing a sword on my head, but I don't know how easy/hard that is for other people. So really, a two part question:

(a) How hard is it to stand up from kneeling without using your hands? (There's no need to guess on this; you can always kneel, clasp your hands behind your back, and try to stand up. Anonymous commenting is on if you don't want to admit to having tried this. I did try it, and it was easy for me.)

(b) Would being in subspace make it harder?

According to the friend I bother about kinky things, it gets more difficult depending on how deep in subspace you are/how much you've been smacked around already, because balance is one of the first things to go. And the starting difficulty varies depending on how good your balance is in the first place. So one data point, anyway. :)

I can do it if I put one foot forward and step up, but I can't rock back on my heels and come standing without touching the floor to balance myself. (Thanks, lame foot.)

My friend who's staying with me and I both tried this (what a fun way to start a visit!). And if we can put one foot forward to push ourselves up with it's very easy. If our ankles were bound too it's harder but not very hard. However on my third try kneeling my knees started to hurt and I could see how on a hard surface especially, cramping or sleepy nerves could provide an additional problem. And in a situation where arms and ankles bindings were connected to each other or something else I would think it would greatly add to the level of difficulty...

I tried it and almost fell over and had to grab the couch, so I would say that for less limber subs getting help is probably realistic.

One thing to think about is how long are they kneeling for?

If you go down & straight back up it's usually no problem, but if you're down for like 10 min then bloodflow changes, muscles tense/relax & your balance goes wonky... And I'm just talking physically not even taking headspace into consideration.
