I am having a tough week this week, so tell me something good. Tell me about something awesome in your life or an amazing new recipe you've discovered. Tell me about something you're writing or your new favorite song. Rec me a story or show me a picture.

I'm not sure I can promise to return the favor, but you'll have my undying gratitude.

Edna's Salad is a recipe my mom picked up from an awesome little old lady she worked for. It's not new to me but it is delicious and also the only thing I could think of that you might enjoy from what I've gathered of your dieting habits: 2 cups shredded carrot, 2 cups shredded coconut, 1 cup mandarin orange slices and 1 cup pineapple chunks. 1/2 cup of raisins is optional (and recommended because tis yummy). Mix it all together in a bowl and chill, covered, for two or three hours. Stir it before serving and enjoy.

I signed up for band girl big bang and I'm writing on it. More importantly, I'm happy with what I'm writing.

I come bearing two things! First, this blog: tastespotting (http://www.tastespotting.com/). It basically aggregates an whole host of recipes from various food blogs all over the internets. I've found lots of gluten-free recipes and there seems to be a good mix of veggie/vegan in there too.

Second: this book: Struts and Frets (http://www.amazon.com/Struts-Frets-Jon-Skovron/dp/0810941740), which I just finished reading this morning and thought was awesome.

I just got a notice that instead of owing the IRS a couple hundred, I'd miscalculated, and only owed $32 - talk about a major mood-lifter!

and, the monsoonish weather here may be coming to an end - things are clearing and we'll possibly hit the low 70s by the weekend, which also raises one's spirits.

I hope things improve for you soon!

I'm not having the best of days myself, but I can share a picture book I read recently that was really good: One by somebody (Kathryn?) Otoshi. If your local library doesn't have it, it should.

I originally discovered the book at the children's museum they've got now on Franklin Street, when the Foundation had its March meeting and the K. family was therefore in town. (Whoa, I just realized Kitty's married initials are K. K. Good thing her middle name and/or maiden name didn't start with Ks.) I don't think K. will mind if I share a toddler/preschooler story from her Livejournal in order to cheer you up:

'This evening Zebby was in a liminal stage of getting ready for bed. He was in his night-time diaper, but did not yet have his pajama bottoms on. He and Anastasia were in the bonus room together. He got up and announced to her in Zebby-speak, "I go to meeting."

She told him very matter-of-factly, "You don't have your pants on. You can't got to a meeting."'

Oh, speaking of kids, maybe you would like to see a video about Russia. Here's the site (http://sites.google.com/site/russiamcdougle/) - third link down is the video I made (my first movie...), while the sidebar's "Information from Students" will link you to a video with student artwork.

I'm sorry you're having a tough week. I hope it starts getting better. The weekend is almost here, then--freedom? Adventures?

I've had Billionaire (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aRor905cCw) stuck in my head all day. Not a bad way to be. You can get a free download (http://twitter.com/TravieMcCoy/status/15338156357) of it and I believe you can still stream the CD (http://twitter.com/TravieMcCoy/status/15253169616). And, hm. Have a picture of one of my roommate's cats (http://twitter.com/account/profile_image/a_okay?hreflang=en)? I don't really have much happy to offer you, except to recommend watching Elf. That's what I do when I'm feeling crappy :P *hugs*

<3 Travie, he makes music because he loves it and you can tell. That's my favorite thing about musicians, when they make music not because they have to but because they want to.

She was sitting on my lap (how dare I have my computer there!) and sniffing the phone when I tried to take the picture :P

Videos to cheer you up!

My response (http://www.scientificamerican.com/blog/post.cfm?id=dothraki-response-2010-06-02) to that open letter in Scientific American (http://www.scientificamerican.com/blog/post.cfm?id=fantasy-tv-in-the-service-of-scienc-2010-04-26) got posted today.

Oh! And someone showed me this site (http://thecutest.info/top.html), which literally knocked me out of my chair with cuteness.
