So as I mentioned, I've written some things for a couple of anonymous fic memes recently. Some of the things I wrote aren't great and should probably just stay anonymous. (And the one I'm not sure I can admit to writing is definitely staying anonymous!) But some of them are good, and I'd love to say, "Hey, these are mine," and post them here.

The sticking point is that I think part of the point and part of the fun of anonymous fic memes are that they are anonymous.

So here's a poll!

I likes the funny boxes (and thus shall throw off the results of the poll, but thems the breaks)!

Hmmmm, WWMPD? (That's "What Would Miss Piggy Do?)

"Claim it if you've got it!"

That sounds about right, right?

I think you may as well claim stories you're happy to be associated with. Lots of people have done that for the SPN kink meme.

I once wrote a short story that I shared with this writer from Chicago I didn't like. He thought the story was okay; nothing special. Several months later, he says he found a story somewhere on his computer that he couldn't remember writing, but managed to weave it into another story he had written and the result was just "fantastic", and he shared it with me. I asked him if he was sure that this wasn't one of my stories he used, and his exact words were, I believe, "I know my style. It's very distinct." Turns out what he had done was written a crappy story and then taken my story and copied-and-pasted bits of it into the end of it, juxtaposing it with the text he was writing for dramatic effect. I wrote him back saying that it was indeed my story, and that I didn't realize he'd used so much of it (he said he just borrowed a couple sentences, not, like, half of it). I said he could use the story (the new one he'd produced) if he also put my name on it. He was quite put out (and mortified), because I think he really had come to believe that he'd written my story.

The moral of the story is this: If you don't claim your work, someone else may claim it for (or from) you!
