Friday Night TV Recaplet

Sarah Connor Chronicles rocked my socks off! I'm in the habit of watching each episode twice before the next one airs (I was doing that with SPN, too, but I kind of lost some of my interest in the Winchesters), and I'm totally excited to watch it again before next week.

Dollhouse is another matter. If it weren't a Joss Whedon show, I would have stopped watching halfway through the episode, and even with it being a Joss show, it only gets another couple of episodes to convince me it's worth watching. There was an interesting comment on an io9 Dollhouse post where the commenter was proposing that Joss ought to do a show that doesn't really exist - there could be spoilers and reports of trouble on the set and controversy without there actually being a show - and so far Dollhouse might have been better like that.

Both shows, however, were made extra enjoyable by real-time emailing with norwich36. It's been a long time since I watched something with someone over the internet, and I'd forgotten how fun it is! It was also hilarious when we sent nearly simultaneous emails mentioning how much the Summer Glau-Eliza Dushku promos they kept showing suck. Seriously, they almost made me not want to watch either show.

I saw those commercials and was like "Wow, it's a Joss Whedon wet dream?" they said nothing about either show it annoyed me...

There were apparently some promos before the show aired, and then the annoying ones during both shows. I couldn't stop staring at how unbelievably shiny Eliza's lipstick was. The one good moment out of all of them was in the first one where Summer says, "I stapled my face." It comes out perfectly, and Eliza's pretty impressed by it.

liviapenn has a poll about Dollhouse, and one of the options for the "I didn't watch it because" questions mentions those awful promos. WTF, Fox marketing? (Oh, what am I saying? It's Fox marketing--the only marketing department that outsleazes the CW).

I so agree with you that this week's SCC rocks. In a way, it makes sense that they paired it with Dollhouse, since both are (in theory) about kickass women--but SCC is so superior in every way I can't even express it. I was looking at some reviews of last night's episode, and someone said one of the things she loved most about SCC was how they had some of the best one-off female characters, like the doctor--and YES. They really do. Plus they have almost 5 female regulars these days (depending on how you count Jesse and Riley), and they are all interesting and flawed and human (um, or machine) AND kickass. I'm pretty sure there's no way Dollhouse could beat that even if its gender politics do improve.

I should figure out how to do chat so we could do that next week. I've only ever done google chat, though--do I need to download something?

Actually, I thought the previews and the pairing were more like, "Hey, look, Joss's women are on TV" than "look, kickass women," but that may be from my nerd-based perspective!

I just so love SCC. I even love John and Derek.

I do have a Google account, so Google chat is certainly an option! But we might not be able to do this week - my family's probably going down to visit my grandparents in Sacramento, and I don't know if we'll be back by 8.
