Today I'm thankful for the end of election season. I'm glad about Obama and that Proposition 2 passed and 4 failed. I'm irked about 8 passing, but I have hope for the future, and [livejournal.com profile] schuyler said it better than I ever could.

I find it--I don't know if I want to say amusing, or alarming--that we Californians have voted to ensure the rights of chickens while simultaneously voting to rather arbitrarily abridge the rights of certain otherwise equal human beings. Of course, this issue will be ironed out with time (I think it's primarily an age thing, not a political thing), but even so, when it's an issue of fundamental rights and equality, why should we have to wait?

This, unfortunately, would require a new ballot measure. Currently, chickens live in cages that allow them to stand up and turn around. With these new Kentucky fried weddings, we must demand new accommodations: married chickens must be housed in cages that allow both the chicken and its spouse to stand up and turn around!

[Note: I decided to search the net for the adjectival form of "poultry", and the first article I came across was rather shocking (http://www.goldschp.net/archive/femnames.html).]
