So I quit my job, right, which means I have to deal with my own health insurance. Through work, we had BlueShield health insurance. I submitted an application to BlueShield for individual health insurance. This seems like it should be easy. They're one company, and they already know everything about my last several years of medical care since they're the ones who have been paying for it. Should be easy, right? But no. Here's how this works: I fill out an application and submit it. Then they ask for authorization to get my medical records. Then they call me for a phone interview. You know what they do on the fucking phone interview? Some woman who doesn't know what she's doing (and, yes, I get that this is probably a really shitty job) asks me the same damn questions that are on the application. Seriously? Seriously? This, you idiot politicians, is why people are fucking angry about the state of health care in this country. Even when we can afford it, it's stupid and bureaucratic and idiotically redundant.
Dear Blue Shield,
Train your customer service reps and/or design your software to track the answers they're getting so they don't ask the same questions over and over again. Once I've said I'm still under treatment, don't make them keep asking me stupid, repetitive questions like, "When did you recover?" and "Still ongoing?"
No love,
Ruth
