Ever since my belly dance teacher brought it up, I can't stop thinking about contacts. Part of me thinks, "Fuck you. No way I'm doing that," and then I laugh at myself for that being a cutting off my nose to spite my face attitude. I'm still struggling with the identity issue. On the other hand, glasses can be a pain.

It doesn't hurt to talk to a doctor about this, whatever you decide. When I actually decided to get contacts at age 17, I was strongly advised by my doctor not to get them, so I never did.

Even if you get contacts (which can be handy for certain sports, among other things) you can still switch back and forth between contacts and glasses.

And completely off the topic: I see summer movie season is already upon us. Do you want to get together and see anything, at some point in the near future?

talk to the doctor - it doesn't commit you to anything, and the info may impact your decision (one way or another). maybe you can get some freebies for a trial, whcih would be helpful in deciding if they're 'you' or not

I also think you should try it out. Seeing the world through contacts is different than through glasses, not necessarily better, just different. I actually split between glasses and contacts about 50/50 because each has strengths and weaknesses. Plus if you see the doctor and then decide against it at least you're choosing not to wear them, not rejecting them out of hand (that narrow semantic difference matters to me =))

I'd rather the world be blurry than put something on my eye. If it gets that bad, I'd just save up for lasik surgery.

And I play basketball. While there are certain occasions where if I've been sweating I can't see the other side of the court from the opposite baseline, I still do fine.

Why not save up for lasik surgery, then?

Pay for me to do it first; I'll test it out for you. ~:D
