We're not through with unfinished fic yet, and today's theme is Buffy. First up is an AU bunny I never really did anything with. If anyone wants to take it and run with it, I would love to read the results.

Sometime after everyone's met and hooked up and all that jazz, they find out on a Friday afternoon that they're shipping out on Monday morning and they've got leave all weekend. Spike, Angel, and Lindsey come to the bar. Lindsey takes his beer and gets up on stage to sing sad, mournful songs. Spike drinks a lot--he and Xander can't exactly be open (don't ask, don't tell) about their relationship--and he and Xander go home to Xander's as soon as they can escape. They have a lot of sex all weekend. Angel takes his one glass of whiskey and sits in a dark corner where no one can bother him and he can catch glimpses of Faith tending the bar. They go on picnics and sit on benches in the park and on the beach. Wes and Lilah have stopped going to the bar by now, so she shows up at his place in uniform to break the news. They have a lot of sex all weekend. Lindsey drinks and plays his guitar. At some point, Xander goes to Angel and says, "Bring him home safe to me."

Wes knows when he opens the door and sees the uniform. He stands stoic and unmoving as the guy gives him a flag and a letter Lilah left for him. And as the guy--Charles Gunn--offers to hang out sometime, because Lilah thought they might like each other. (In the letter: "I'm sorry I couldn't live for you, Wes, but know that I died protecting you." Also: "I love you.")

Spike gets shot (or maybe just shrapnel) in the head, and Faith sits Xander down and says, very firmly, "Spike is going to be fine" before she tells him about the injury and the surgery. Spike receives a medical discharge and now he and Xander can be out and go dancing and on dates and hold hands.

Angel and Lindsey come home at the end of their tour of duty. Angel kisses Faith deeply and then goes down on one knee and asks her to marry him. He's staying in the navy.

Lindsey packs up his guitar, buys an old truck, says his goodbyes, and starts driving east.
