Let's go old-school again today and return to Merri-Todd Webster and her seven-part Kinks series. This is Sentinel fic with Jim and Blair exploring some kinks, and you can find links to all seven here. This is another one that doesn't really need to be read in order. My favorites are "Kinks 1" with a very large dildo, "Kinks 2" with spanking, and "Kinks 5" with bondage.

I was trying not to repeat fandoms until I got through all the fandoms I had recs in mind for, but the last fandom is going to be today's bonus rec, so repeats start now.

Today's rec is another series with some warnings about the writing quality: Legion's Too Hot To Handle series (go here and scroll down to it). This is a Sentinel Jim/Blair kink series where they take turns subbing for each other (you may or may not like that, but it's unusual enough to mention). Anyway, the warning about the writing is that there's the occasional sentence that makes me wince and it has a tendency towards being a bit over the top, but it's one of those things that once you've read them once, you can skip those parts and get straight to the good stuff (and this is good enough that I have it bookmarked with a keyword for easy access). My particular favorite stories in the series are "Slow Burn," "Living Fire," and "Tinderbox."

You know what there isn't enough of in fic or (free) porn? Anal beads. You know why I think anal beads are hot? "Iterations" by Sihaya Black. "Iterations" is Sentinel fic (Jim/Blair, of course), and it's less a story than a collection of snippets. I don't like all of them, but the ones I do like I really like.

The Sentinel
I've read a lot of Sentinel fic. A lot. And so when The Sentinel came out on DVD, I put it on my Netflix queue. I want you to know that before yesterday, I had only ever seen one episode. (It was the one where ( Are they spoilers if the show's been off the air for years? ) Yesterday I watched the pilot. I knew every single line of dialogue from the scene in Blair's office. Every. Single. Line. This leads me to believe that Sentinel authors have taken adherence to canon to a whole new level. Especially considering that if I go looking for new fic now, I go looking for AUs. Except for Francesca, who is my favorite Sentinel author. (One of the quotes from the quote identification thing none of you wanted to play is from one of her stories.)

Wildfire
On one of those times I was in a hotel room watching ABC Family, I saw an ad for Wildfire, which looked intriguing enough to add to my Netflix queue. I've now watched the entire first season, and I can't wait for the second season to be on DVD. Here's the setup: Kris gets out of her juvenile prison camp and gets a job at Raintree, a horse farm run by the Ritter family--Henry, his daughter-in-law Jean (Nana Visitor! Can I tell you how much of a crush I had on Ensign Kira?), and her children Matt (Kris's age) and Todd (junior high age). The rich kids from the currently successful horse farm--Junior and Dani--are friends with Matt.

IMDb says Wildfire was originally slated to be a WB show but was then shuffled onto ABC Family. This explains a lot. ( More spoilery commentary. )

Not a Show
Once upon a time, there was TV Tome, and it was good. And then it got bought by cNet and became tv.com, and it was not so good, but still usable. And then it was redesigned and became nearly unusable. I'm finding that IMDb's new way of dealing with TV episodes is increasingly more useful than tv.com.

I've had a rough summer, emotionally speaking, which required a lot of comfort. Consequently, I've memorized all of my favorite romance fics/books/movies that I didn't already have memorized.

This is where you come in. I'm looking for more romance. I want declarations of love, dramatic scenes in the rain, running through the terminal to catch the plane. Rec me your favorite romance fics, books, movies.

Tam Lin by Pamela Dean. Fairy tale retelling.

Deerskin by Robin McKinley. Another fairy tale retelling.

Spindle's End by Robin McKinley. Yet another fairy tale retelling.

Silver Woven in My Hair by Shirley Rousseau Murphy. Yes, it's another fairy tale retelling.

The Complete Ivory by Doris Egan. Not a fairy tale retelling, but nicely romantic. (I actually own each of the books separately; they've now been re-released in one volume.)

Light Raid by Connie Willis and Cynthia Felice. Yummy.

Promised Land by Connie Willis and Cynthia Felice. A forced marriage on a farm love story.

The Merro Tree by Katie Waitman. Interspecies same-sex romance, which is not really the main point of the story, but which is very romantic.

Sable, Shadow, and Ice by Cheryl J. Franklin. Every time I read this, I feel like I shouldn't like it because it's so cheesy. And yet I love it.

Mel by Liz Berry. Another one that's cheesy, but I love. Alas, I discovered on Saturday that our local library no longer has a copy of either this or Easy Connections, which finally started to creep me out on my last reread.

Quest For a Maid by Frances Mary Hendry. Historical romance for kids.

The Ordinary Princess by M.M. Kaye. A good new-school fairy tale.

Mara: Daughter of the Nile by Eloise Jarvis McGraw. Teen romance set in Ancient Egypt.

Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith. Weak battle scenes, but a nice romance.

Movies

She's All That. My love for Freddie Prinze Jr. movies is well documented.

10 Things I Hate About You. Mmm, Shakespeare retelling.

Love Actually. Romantic movie with romantic music.

The Princess Bride. Everyone's favorite new-school fairy tale.

King Arthur. I love this, and one of the things I love is the way the romance is so toned down.

IQ. Einstein's niece and a mechanic in love.

Bringing Up Baby. Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant speaking very fast.

Comics

"Dramatic Spring," From Eroica With Love story. What I find so romantic about this is the last page where we see Klaus trusting Dorian to watch over him as he sleeps.

Daisy Kutter: The Last Train. Excellent, excellent western.

Uncanny X-Men 318. The arc that ended with this issue is what made me want some Bobby/Emma.

TV

"Thespis" and "April is the Cruelest Month," Sports Night. Two very romantic Casey/Dan episodes.

Wonderfalls. Mmm. A great story premise with a very nice romance.

Keen Eddie. Fabulous romance in the midst of a cop show.

The O.C. Ryan and Marissa are everything I could possibly want in a teen TV couple.
