Girly Things I Don't Know
We're going to Rocky Horror (a live production) in October, and I'm leading a push for people to dress up. I have a top (well, a bra and a shrug I bought to be belly dance costume pieces), and I either have or can acquire fishnets. I have boots I don't like but keep for dress-up like this, and I think I can buy some cloth and wrap it around my hips to make a short skirt. I'd like to wear some makeup with it too. I know nothing about makeup. I do not want to spend very much money on it. Does anybody have any suggestions for good cheap lipstick? What color eyeliner should I wear? Will it look silly if I wear lipstick and eyeliner, but no other makeup?

Mothafuckin' Snakes on a Mothafuckin' Plane
We went to see the 10:01 showing of Snakes on a Plane on Thursday. It was awesome. Awesome! [livejournal.com profile] allegram won a movie poster. The whole audience was a bunch of geeks--there was actual clapping and cheering for the pre-movie Grand Theft Auto Coke ad--and one group even had stuffed snakes with them. After the movie, we saw them in the parking lot, stuffed into the back of a pickup truck and waving wood with cloth over it to simulate wings.

Follow-Up
For anyone who was wondering, the movie I was thinking of is The Black Dahlia.

This Movie Must Die
Despite the fact that John Tucker Must Die is only 87 minutes long, it seems almost interminable.

Fic Commentary
Does anyone read fic commentary? I don't, so I haven't written up the two or three I have in mind. If anyone is interested in such things, I would consider typing them up.

Abbreviated Travel Report: Vegas
I was completely disgusted by the waste of resources (water, electricity, money, energy, etc.) in Vegas. The Star Trek museum was cool, though, and the decor for Quark's Bar and the Promenade was awesome.

Ethical Dilemma
I really want Christina Aguilera's new album. I dislike the RIAA tactics, and tend to agree with the people who suggest boycotting all RIAA labels. As issues go, this is on the lower end for me, but at the same time, I realize that funding the RIAA probably contributes to all kinds of lobbying for anti-real person (as opposed to corporation-person) legislation. Please do not tell me to go download it online somewhere or offer to make me a copy; neither one of those is a good or appropriate solution to my dilemma.

For the Math and A Capella Geeks in the Crowd
If you haven't seen The Klein Four Group's "Finite Simple Group (of order two)," you must watch it. It's my new favorite song. I love it so much I've ordered The Klein Four Group's CD, and I'm just waiting for the US Postal Service to deliver it to me.

I like reading fic commentaries--and even if people don't read it, its fun to do. You know how when you're writing, there's always those little details that didn't quite fit into the story, and all those reasons you had for making a character do one thing that don't need to be (or shouldn't be) apparent within the story, but are still interesting. I'm thinking about doing one for my last Veronica Mars story--sure, only one person commented on all my other commentaries (the same one person, too!) but there's stuff I wanna say about it, so I'll probably do it for myself, anyway--doing them in the past has sort of helped for me what I was trying to say about a certain thing or a certain character that was hinted at, but not directly stated, in the work itself. If someone reads it, bonus.

I wish I could help you with the makeup thing, but oh my god, I'm so bad at it. I just buy colors I like and stuff thats a good price. I am definately a Rite Aid makeup buyer. I will however state that I'm so fucking jealous that you're going to see Rocky. I haven't been since, like, September.

a) For RHPS, I'd think you could get away with whatever color you wanted. *g* But I wouldn't wear eyeliner without mascara. Then again, I feel naked without mascara. As far as good cheap lipstick goes... I can't help, since I pretty much only wear gloss. The one drugstore lipstick I bought and liked I can't remember the name of. Maybelline Diamond Shine? Something like that.

b) I would read your fic commentaries.

c) wait until you find the new Christina CD used somewhere? I don't know how much money the record companies get from that, if any.

a) On the makeup front: Mary-Kate and Ashley brand makes a eyeliner crayon that goes on nice and doesn't tug your eyelid. And it's pretty cheap, and comes in a variety of colors. I think there's one that's all gold glitter.

I only own one shrug, which goes over a matching tank, and I just... tie it in a knot.

b) I've only done one fic commentary, for a section of haeddu, but some of my other stories feel like they need the explanation.

Yo, I got a drugstore lipstick tonight that seems worthwhile. Not heavy or fish-scaley: L'Oreal Color Juice Stick. It goes on kind of sheer and you can layer it on for more color. I got Cherry Freeze, which is red.

And more on the lipstick front: I wanted to see if I could wear a coral color, so I got a tube of L'Oreal Colour Riche (in Tropical Coral) because it was the cheapest I could find in a color I wanted. It's okay, I guess, but I have to wear gloss on top of it so it doesn't have that dry lipstick look. Which is why I don't wear lipstick much in the first place!
