If you know me at all, it shouldn't surprise you that I couldn't resist Campus Confidential on ABC Family. After the school paper is shut down, two teenagers decide to take down the A-listers the same way you take down real celebrities: with their very own tabloid. Yes, this is as bad as it sounds. Notable, however, is the fact that one of the A-lister cliques is a group of fashionable, catty gay boys. I'm sure you can figure out what they dig up on the ringleader to bring him down.
Video Killed the Radio Star
Because I'm now an early riser, I was awake to catch that time when MTV and VH1 actually play videos in the morning. The video for Natasha Bedingfield's "These Words" is very weird. There are animated boom boxes that follow her around. Weird.
In the middle of the videos, I caught an ad masquerading as a VH1 news brief about not-yet-famous artists touring Borders stores. Yeah, get all the marketing in that? Anyway, what caught my attention was Anna Nalick's commentary on fame:
Secret Shame
I like Hilary Duff's music. I love "Wake Up," and I loved "Come Clean." Please don't tell my family; they mock me enough already.
Enough of This Shallowness
Also on vacation I listened to a radio station that appeared to be playing the BBC World Service nonstop, which was very interesting. Their show Outlook has, in today's edition, an interview with Frank Warren, who created and runs PostSecret, which you should start reading if you're not already. There is a feed for it (
postsecret), but I found it a little bit irritating and prefer to just read at the site once a week.
Undiscovered No More
Today I went to see Undiscovered. You might wait until Sky sees it to make your decision. My guess is that she'll like it better than I did. I kept wishing for a remote control so I could turn down the sound and fast forward. I was disappointed because I expected the movie to be a bit more like Raise Your Voice, but instead it was clearly trying to be more edgy and indie. Steven Strait's still hot, though, as long as he keeps his hair up, and I liked Ashlee Simpson. IMDb says she "was originally set to play a lesbian until her manager/father stepped in," but the residue of that is still there in her character. She and Pell James have some chemistry. There's also some good incest slash potential between Luke and Euan.

"Hi, I'm Anna Nalick."I was entertained, anyway. And speaking of hotness, who is that really hot guy in the video for Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together"? And has anyone else seen the video for the Black Eyed Peas' "Don't Lie"? Fergie is very, very hot in it, but not in the ruffled thing.
"Who?" [pause] "Oh my God, your bassist is so hot!"
No, love me!

Date: 2005-08-27 06:15 am (UTC)Dude, Anna Nalick went to my high school! She graduated my year. Man, there's nothing like someone from your high school becoming sucessful to make you feel like a gigantic loser.

Date: 2005-08-27 03:42 pm (UTC)Wow! Did you actually know her? I hadn't seen her, only heard her song on pretty much every radio station I listen to, so I was really surprised to see that she's so young. From her voice I expected her to be at least in her thirties.
