In which I am a gigantic dork.
Mar. 18th, 2005 09:41 pmAs I walked into the theater, I thought, "Should I have brought Kleenex?"
Not ten minutes later I was in tears at the trailer--the trailer!--for The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. Amber Tamblyn is playing Tibby. I vaguely remember hearing that she was going to be in it, but Tibby! I really imagine Tibby dorkier--like little girl God only older--but Amber looks like she's going to be fantastic. Amy, you must get your hands on at least the first book. I myself will be going to the library tomorrow morning to put myself on the list for the third one.
Also seen in the trailers: The Perfect Man, which stars Hilary Duff, Heather Locklear, and Chris Noth. I don't know either.
And then, of course, there was the actual movie. That's right, folks: I went to see Ice Princess on opening day, and I paid Friday evening prices for it.
The audience was interesting. There were a couple of people there on dates, a couple of moms with a whole gaggle of kids, and a couple of elderly folk. Maybe G movies are all their hearts can take.
I think I was more charmed by the movie than anyone else there. Let me enumerate its charms:

I think I was more charmed by the movie than anyone else there. Let me enumerate its charms:
- Michelle Trachtenberg, being absolutely beautiful, and also extremely smart. I didn't like the way she just sloughs off the physics at the end, but I did love it that being smart is what got her to discover something else she loved.
- I kept thinking, "Surely there will be some femslashy Casey/Gen moments." There were not. This is because Gen needs to have the femslashy moments with Anna, Casey's math genius best friend, at the end of the movie.
- Ice skating. Perhaps I've never mentioned this to any of you, but I was heavily into ice skating for a long time. Sitting on my dining room table at this very moment is a copy of the program from Campbell's Soups 1995 Tour of World Figure Skating Champions. My mom and I drove all the way to Sacramento to see it.
- More generally, I am a huge fan of the sappy sports movie.
- Joan Cusack. I love her anyway, but here she's a feminist single mom/professor.
- I spent the whole movie trying to figure out who the downmarket Michelle Pfeiffer was. Only during the credits did I figure out it was Kim Cattrall.
- Nikki the Jumping Shrimp. She was hilarious. Also, adorable.
- Zamboni on a pond. What could be cooler?
- And, of course, no modern-day ice skating movie would be complete without an extremely gay Brian Boitano.
