rsadelleSid's first mistake- Well, probably his first mistake was making friends with Geno, but the current mistake is agreeing to go out with Geno and a bunch of other Russians in the middle of All-Star Weekend. The further mistake is letting them buy him drinks. The worst mistake is drinking all of them. Staying at the table with Ovi and Geno when everyone else drifts off to do whatever else it is Russians do in a bar is probably also a mistake.
Ovi slings an arm over Sid's shoulder. "We need to find you a nice girl."
Sid laughs. "No, you don't."
"Yes." Ovi leans in way too close. "We both have nice girls. You deserve one too. We find you one."
"No," Sid says, "really."
"Yes."
"No," Sid says.
"Yes." Ovi squeezes Sid's shoulders. "You need a nice girl."
"No," Sid says, "I don't. I'm gay." He snaps his mouth shut after he says it. "Shit, fuck, I didn't say that. I'm drunk."
Ovi squeezes his shoulders again. "You need a nice boy."
Sid ignores him and looks at Geno, who's looking at him like Sid's betrayed him in the worst way.
"You not tell me," he says.
"I not tell anyone," Sid says, and doesn't bother to correct himself from falling into Geno's speech pattern. "My parents know, maybe Taylor. Mario might have guessed. Now you two."
And then they start setting Sid up with dudes. They always send him to the same bar - a place that's gay-friendly without being an actual gay bar - and Sid generally ends up at the end of the evening finishing his beer or wine - or, on one memorable occasion, something pink with an umbrella in it - while chatting with the bartender at the bar, who turns out to also be the owner of the bar. Of course Sid eventually realizes that he likes going on these dates because it's the bartender he's interested in, and then he and the bartender start dating, which works out surprisingly well given that they both have weird working hours.
The other part I want of this: Sid gets called into Dan's office after practice one day, and Dan has him close the door and sit down.
"I just wanted you to know," Dan says, "that if you want to bring your boyfriend to team events or you want him to have access to the family lounge, you can let me know and we'll make that happen."
Sid freezes with panic. "What- How- Who told you?"
Dan just levels Sid with his usual calm gaze. "No one told me," he says. "I know you, and I know when something is going on in your life, and I know your friend is not just a friend. If you want to bring him to things, you can. I don't think anyone else knows yet."
Sid nods and manages to say, "Thank you," and does most of his freaking out before he next sees his boyfriend.
