Many of you probably already know all of this, but some of you are new, so hi! Have a meme.

FIRST NAME: Ruth. If you have known me since I was a small child, you can call me Ruthie, but if you have not, it's Ruth.

AGE: 33

LOCATION: Northern California. That's actual Northern California, as in north of Sacramento, not the Bay Area which is only Northern California to people who think Ventura County is central California.

OCCUPATION: Unemployed.

PARTNER: No, and not particularly interested.

KIDS: I have no desire to ever have my own children, but I do like other people's children. I've been going to the library to write once or twice a week, and I keep ending up there at toddler/preschool singalong/story time, and it just makes me despair that none of my friends have tiny children I can cuddle and then give back. (They're so cute! They're all tiny, and some of them are only sort of walking, and then their parents chase them down the stacks and pick them up.)

BROTHERS/SISTERS: One younger brother and his much younger girlfriend. They live in town, and my family's been trying to get together about once a month, which is nice since I haven't really spent much time with my brother for several years.

PARENTS: My parents are awesome both as parents and as people. My dad works as an engineer and my mom teaches a Tai Chi class and refers to herself as semi-retired. They do things like go to Burning Man and take trips based on where they can take photos of things, since they're both very much into photography these days. You can see some of my mom's photos here and my dad's here.

PETS: No, and less than no interest in having any.

3-5 BIGGEST THINGS GOING ON IN YOUR LIFE:

1. Job hunting. I hate doing this and I'm so, so bad at it. I originally said I could make it to the end of January before I started worrying about being unemployed, and now it's the end of January, so I've started feeling anxious. I promise I'm an excellent employee!

2. Writing. The nice thing about being unemployed is that I have plenty of time for writing, and having six in progress projects (one original, five fan fic) isn't completely overwhelming. My relatively low daily per story writing goals sometimes make it seem like I'm not making that much progress on a day to day basis, but I have a good weekly email check-in, which helps remind me that I'm actually writing a lot on a weekly basis. This is really what I love to do, and having all the time in the world to think about what I'm writing is great.

3. Hockey. Hockey is totally my fandom now, and pretty much my only one. (I was reading Teen Wolf fic, but then I got so far behind I'll never get caught up and gave up. I reserve the right to go back to it.) All five of those in progress fic projects are hockey, and no two of them are the same pairing. But I'm not just reading and writing fic. I'm actually watching hockey games. Well, in that way where I have it on and I pay close attention for short periods of time and refresh Tumblr/read fic with it on for the rest of the time. But I'm doing that pretty much every day. Again, being unemployed means I can have a hockey game on for three hours every day and still have time for everything else I'm doing with my life. I'm limiting it to one game a day (although I may make exceptions for Saturdays, since that's my day off from writing goals), and I'm mostly watching Eastern Conference games because (a) they're on early enough that even if they go into overtime, they're over before my bedtime and (b) I care most about the Flyers and the Bruins (by which I really mean: I care most about Danny Briere and Tyler Seguin).
