I had a plan for this story. Then I only ever wrote the first scene. The idea for this grew out of my fascination at Anna taking on many of the public support duties other players' wives or girlfriends take on (Twitter cheerleading, charity work). The structural idea was for this to be split into three sections with each section including three alternating povs - Alex, Anna, and the boyfriend (whose name and details I never came up with). Here's the basic outline:

Prologue (one scene each)
  • Alex comes out to Anna

  • Anna makes it clear to the Habs people that she is the public support for Alex for charity work and other related things.

  • The boyfriend brings up being out to Alex early in their relationship. The boyfriend is so out he can't go back into the closet even if he wanted to and people are going to figure it out if they keep dating much later.
Center of the Story (lots of scenes for each of them)
  • Alex navigates what it means to be an openly gay NHL player.

  • Anna slowly turns over all of the public support duties to the boyfriend and has to figure what to do with her life now.

  • The boyfriend moves in with Alex and navigates what it means to be the partner of an NHL player.
Epilogue (one scene each)
  • Alex is totally settled in his life as an out player. Maybe this is 24CH visiting their house, or doing some sort of event to support queer kids who play hockey, or talking about the boyfriend in an interview after winning an important game.

  • Anna is totally happy in her own life. Maybe this is a look at her entrepreneurial business or modeling or her with a boyfriend she brings to family dinner. I never quite figured out exactly what Anna's life would look like.

  • The boyfriend is wholly part of the world of hockey player partners. Maybe this is him welcoming the partner of someone who just got signed/traded to the Habs to the group.

The premise for this story was that Sid is a traditional omega in many ways. For example, he's always chaperoned when with unbonded alphas. (Conveniently, Geno is a beta and therefore a suitable chaperone.) Alex is an alpha, and he and Sid turn out to be ridiculously compatible. There's a bit in here that refers to Ovi talking to the press about how Sid after Sid's bout of the mumps. I really only ever wrote the first scene and a tiny bit of a later one, but there's some what else would have happened at the end.

Content Note: Part of why I didn't come back to this story is that I had Sid talking about hooking up with betas but wanting to bond with an alpha, and I was uncomfortable with that in an A/B/O as an allegory for gender/sexuality politics way.

This story grew out of Chicago Parent's article on the Blackhawks baby boom. All of the other women look picture perfect; Abby looks exhausted. She says about life when Patrick's on the road, "I don't mean to throw him under the bus or anything. It's not too much different from when he's home because usually he's napping or resting for the game. But no, we're used to being on our own, you know, so it's really not that much different." About Patrick's relationship with Madelyn she says, "I think now that she's getting older, and can talk and play with him, he's just in love. ... He's really enjoying it, I think, now that she's getting out of the baby stage." I read that and thought, "No wonder she looks tired." There were also rumors floating around scurrilous anonymous gossip spaces (way before last season's specific rumor) that Patrick slept with other women.

I wanted to write a story where Abby gets fed up, takes the kids, and leaves, and then has to figure out how to, or even if she wants to, fix her marriage. This is the part of that story I wrote. I never got to the part where they figure it out and make it work, so be forewarned that this leaves off at an uncertain place. Part of what made writing this story fun was that I was writing it just for me - I decided to just write and not worry about finishing or ever posting it. Months would go by without my even looking at this story, and then I would sit down and write 600 words one day.

Content Notes: This story involves real life partners and children. Infidelity themes. There is a mention of Patrick Kane and his girlfriend makes a brief appearance.

I started writing this quite a while ago, so it takes place in a world where Joner never got traded and the Kings exercised a normal buyout of Mike's contract. This is less a linear narrative and more a collection of scenes from a life as it goes on. I was really having fun writing it, but unfortunately I didn't finish it before I needed to move on from hockey. I did write out what else would have happened so there is some closure to the story.

Content Note: Various real world partners, children, siblings, and other family members appear in this story. Skip it if that's not your thing.
