Ficlet: Take Me Now (Tom/Sean, 1400 words, FRAO)

Notes: I wrote the very beginning of this in December as part of a batch of snippets I emailed to friends. The rest of them have been posted here, but I held onto this one because I knew I wanted to do more with it. Title from Patti Smith's "Because the Night" because I've been listening to it all day.

PoC Author: Malinda Lo, Huntress

Malinda Lo's Huntress takes place in the same world as Ash (my review here), only several hundred years earlier.

Our main characters are Kaede and Taisin, students at The Academy, where girls go to learn to be sages. Taisin has never wanted anything but to be a sage. Kaede has never even managed the simplest blessing, but she doesn't want to go home to be married off for political advantage. The land is in a state of constant winter, and the king has been invited to visit the Fairy Queen. Instead, he sends his son, Con, along with Taisin, Kaede, and a small batch of guards, to accept her invitation.

My greatest wish is for Malinda Lo to be one of those writers who really learns to write by the third book. Ash and Huntress are both good, with moments that are exquisite, but I think Lo has the potential to be truly great.

Three-Day Weekend Goals Check-In

It turns out I was only a little over-ambitious in making goals for the weekend.

Things I actually did:

• Posted five snippets and wrote one more that didn't get posted. (It's half plot bunny, half snippet, and probably out of character. But kinky, so I might post it anyway.)


• Baked both bread (almost right this time!) and cinnamon rolls (so good my coworkers aren't getting any).


• Wrote/posted an entry about Huntress.


• Finished reading Just Kids.


• Enjoyed lunch with norwich36. Mostly enjoyed Colombiana, although I think I wanted to like it a little more than I actually did.

Things I didn't quite manage:

• Adding the snippets to my master posts/delicious.


• Writing/posting an entry about Just Kids.


• Trying River Marked again.


• Doing my novel writing yesterday or today. I don't know why I'm hiding from it right now, but every time I look at it, I think, "Nope," and go do something else.
