Things I dislike about iTunes.
Feb. 19th, 2006 12:17 pmI downloaded iTunes once before, and then uninstalled it because it seemed no better than anything I already had (especially since I neither have an iPod nor intended to buy anything from the iTunes Music Store) and because it also installed QuickTime, which I didn't really need (I have QuickTime Alternative installed). Then Stanford started offering up lectures for free through iTunes, and that certainly made iTunes useful.
But there are things about iTunes that frustrate the hell out of me. If you understand iTunes better than I do and know how to make it do what I want, please comment and let me know. In no particular order:
- When I right click in the song list, I can choose to Uncheck Selection, but there's no Uncheck All option. This is annoying because I was trying to pull only certain songs from my CDs, and having to Ctrl+A, uncheck selection, and then check the songs I actually wanted was unnecessarily time-consuming.
- If some piece of information (song title, album, etc.) doesn't fit in the column, I expect it to pop up in one of those little yellow-ish boxes when I hover over it. It does no such thing.
- Similarly, the iTunes thing in my taskbar should have the current song name in it. It doesn't. (To be fair, most of the other audio players I have don't do this either. I think I got spoiled by Winamp.)
- If I have iTunes maximized, I can't see the thing where it tells me the artist/song title and where in the song it is. If I have it at some size other than maximized, it shows up, but then it doesn't fit right on my screen. (This may be a resolution issue; my monitor is set to 640x480.)
- I found the place where I can choose how many seconds between songs when I burn a CD (What is the standard?), but I have yet to find any such option for playing songs, It seems to be fading from one song to the next instead of putting in a space.
This mix CD thing is not all it's cracked up to be. About half of my transitions don't work.
